We provide a variety of recreation programming for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Our programs are offered to individuals based on age and ability.
Persons interested in joining our programs for the first time, must go through our initial intake process. This includes filing a Participant Information Form, completion of our medical form by your family physician and a personal consultation with one of our full time staff to plan for the program needs of the applicant and his/her family.
Programming is available weekday afternoons, evenings and on Saturdays. We offer aquatics programming, Special Olympics training in a variety of sports, social activities, weekend away trips and daily outings. Our program selection may change from year to year and season to season. Since we are community based, we schedule our programs in the twelve communities that we serve based on the needs of a program and the availability of a particular facility. Some transportation may be provided from one program to the next, however, participants must be transported to and from program by their parents and/or guardians.
A moderate fee structure exists for most programs. These fees are a small percent of our actual program costs. All program fees must be paid in full at the time of registration unless you have been approved for a payment plan. When necessary, payment schedules may be arranged and partial scholarships are available on a limited basis to those participants in the North East district.
CONVERSION TO
MEDICAID
Beginning in January
2010, persons living at home with their families will be attending North East
Programs under Medicaid Waiver. This means that the amount of fee revenue we
receive from you has changed. We are only able to charge for transportation,
food, some program supplies, lodging and admissions, entertainers and special
events. Medicaid will be covering the cost of staff for those programs. (Read
our Letter on this subject.)
Seven of our programs, Nite Club, Special Olympics Team, Swim and Skills, Bowling,
Blue Mountain Camp Out and Special Olympics Area Competitions stand independent
of Medicaid regulations. The same program fee is applicable to participants
residing at home with family and participants residing in a group home or apartment.
For many of you, this change in funding will result in a tremendous reduction
in program costs. This will certainly stimulate great interest in programs and
they will fill quickly. We have a first come, first served policy. Register
early!
TRANSPORTATION
While North East is able to provide
transportation for several programs, please consider car pooling and para-transit
when possible. Due to the number of requests, we are able to provide transportation
to central locations only.
LATE PICK-UPS
We understand everybody has busy lives, but, please remember that we have to pay our staff for the time they must wait with participants after program. For this reason we will charge $10 for every 15 minutes you are late in picking up.
